It's day 4 and my desk is a disaster, with mail, printouts, expenses, interview notes, business cards, boxes, old phones, computer parts, my purse, file folders, books, calculator, TV clickers, and all sorts of other periphenalia (sp?) strewn all over. It's a beautiful desk - probably 6 feet by 4 feet - a hand me down from the Chairman of a start-up I worked at years ago.
I was laid off this past Friday. I've had 4 days of unemployment, transition time, sabbatical or whatever I end up calling this. I've been busier and happier than ever! Which, I guess explains the desk. I missed one deadline - signing some sort of document for my ex-employer - and I'm sure I'll get around to it soon. I also need to get all these expenses in - thats $$$!!!
It's been a beautiful week. I've had wonderful conversations and I've felt great. Its amazing how much stress we can handle without realizing it. Its amazing how unhappy we can be without noticing.
On my final day of work an article was posted on Yahoo! Finance called 15 Companies that Might Not Survive 2009. Guess who's company was on that list? That's right! My ex-colleagues are now wondering if I was one of the lucky ones - getting a severance and getting some time.
So, what was so wonderful about my week, except that I didn't have to work?
1) I was able to be Sue's Visitor three nights this week. Sue suffered a stroke before the holidays. She is home now, going to daily out-patient therapy, and making progress every day. She needs a "visitor" in the afternoons before her husband comes home. The kids are running in and out of the house (high schoolers) and she is always in such a peaceful place. I really go for me - its such an authentic place to be.
2) I had lunch with co-workers that I never had time for before.
3) I co-hosted a radio show on BlogTalkRadio with a girlfriend. What an absolute treat that was. So much fun! We interviewed 3 authors with amazing books and stories to tell. Part of the pleasure was finding the link between the authors. We had Lauren Bloom, author of Art of The Apology, Victoria Moran, author of many books including Fat, Broke and Lonely No More, as well as Mark Siljander, who's written a deeply thoughtful and compelling book, A Deadly Misunderstanding, A Congressman's Quest to Bridge the Muslim-Christian Divide. If you'd like to hear me - happy to have comments, constructive criticism and feedback - please go to the SolutionzLive channel and listen to the archives for February 12th. If the sharing feature worked properly, then you should find a link to the radio show on the sidebar of this post.
I took notes and may get around to writing them up here when I have a chance. Right now I'm signing off, since this is getting long and starting to feel too much like WORK! Keep in touch and see how I'm doing on the hunt for my next "thing'!
